Six most often hygienic mistakes women make in summer



Hot and humid weather during the summer months carries risks of increased incidence of vaginal infections. Good intimate hygiene can certainly help prevent such situations. Genital candidacies or yeast infections occur when there is an increased concentration of fungi in the vagina. Almost 75 percent of adult women at least once in their lives have had a vaginal infection. Usually high summer temperatures also lead to increased sweating, to cool parts of the body, including the vulva – the external opening of the vagina. Fungi best developed in a dark and damp environment such as vaginal, which creates a way of developing infections.

We present six most often mistakes that are made when it comes to intimate hygiene in the summer, which can damage the vaginal health.

Long Time seating

Long time seating, besides contributing to the occurrence of pain in the lower back, increases the risk of fungal vaginal infections. Long time sitting in the same position increases the temperature, and hence moisture in the genital area due to reduced ventilation. Heat, friction and moisture, causing irritation in vaginal region and create excellent conditions for development of fungi. The most common genital health threats faced by women during the warm summer months are civilities and urinary tract.

Vaginal rinsing

The vagina is created so it can clean itself and through the natural secretion. Although women should not do vaginal rinsing or wiping the vagina with wet wipes, it is estimated that 20 to 40 percent of women aged 15 to 44 use soap or wipes actually irritate the vagina and increases the risk of vaginal infections. Vulva and vagina should be washed only with warm water and wipe with a cotton towel, because with rinsing you are removing the good bacteria.


A bad hygiene during period

In the summer the maintenance of good intimate hygiene during the period becomes even more important. Tampons or pads should be changed up to four hours or more often, allowing the vagina to maintain clean and without unpleasant odor.

Dr. Tony Long, a gynecologist at the Center for Women’s Health in California warns that everything that comes into contact with your skin can be potentially irritating “chemical”. Using the same pads and tampons for years can cause the body to become sensitive to any irritant from the product. Using different brands of these products, from time to time will help reduce irritation and discomfort that occurs as a consequence of that susceptibility. You should use neutral products with a modicum of smell and chemicals to reduce irritations of the delicate skin in the vaginal area.

Underwear that is not of cotton

The choice of underwear can affect the possibility of developing vaginal infections. Because silk and similar fabrics can retain moisture, it is best to wear underwear that is made of a material that will allow the skin to “breathe” – like cotton for example.

Fungi like moist and warm environment, and unfortunately sexy underwear is great for keeping the moisture and heat. Wearing cotton underwear, as well as frequent changes will help the region to be drier, which will reduce the possibility of developing vaginal infections.


 Wet swimsuit

For a long time spent in a wet swimsuit contributes to urinary infections. Wet swimsuit will enable the development of fungus because of the wet environment and heat.
